Baked Salmon Salad Sandwich at Kenny & Ziggy's

At the restaurant I faltered. I think it had something to do with the fact that I had just seen Contagion, and there was much chatter in the film about avian afflictions and bird pestilences and all manners of nasty diseases transmitted by fowl. Eggs suddenly did not seem so appealing. Salmon salad, however, sounded very intriguing.
When my sandwich arrived, I was discontented. Not so much by the size (huge), as I knew Kenny & Ziggy's prides itself on big portions. Rather, it was the absence of lettuce and tomato, which I had requested, and the salad's creamy texture. I had envisioned something akin to chicken salad but with large chunks of salmon. This filling resembled more of a thick pale pink paste.
I sent back the sandwich for some lettuce and tomato, though I certainly wasn't going to send back the sandwich itself, as it's not the fault of Kenny and Ziggy if their sandwich didn't match my vision. In hindsight, I'm so glad.
I REALLY, REALLY liked this sandwich. Rye bread was fresh, roughage was good, yadda yadda yadda....but it was the salmon salad that reigned supreme. The smooth composition belied the substantial amount of fish flesh, which was tender, moist, and not overly salty. Seasoned mayonnaise prevented "briny" from being the salad's main flavor; I couldn't tell exactly what spice mix I was tasting, though celery salt was likely part of it. No nuts, no grapes, no chives, no other standard meat salad add-ins, just salmon and sauce. Divine.
So, Egg Salad Fail, Salmon Salad WIN. And it was worth the extra moolah.
