Upcoming Events: A Taste of Triniti and Brews on the Bayou

Brews (and booze, if you go inside and order it) will be served on the bayou at Brenner's upcoming Beer Fest.

This weekend, if you aren't headed to our own BestFest, check out the 3rd annual Wine Festival on the Kemah Boardwalk on Saturday, September 24, from 2 to 5 p.m. More than 50 samples from 17 different wineries will be on hand, including wines from the nearby Haak Winery in Santa Fe. Admission is $35 in advance (tickets can be purchased online) or $45 at the door. Visit the festival's website for more information, including times and dates of corresponding wine cruises on the Boardwalk FantaSea yacht and private wine dinners.

Can't wait to get a taste of Triniti, the new restaurant from Ryan Hildebrand? Then you'll want to purchase tickets for a pre-tasting of the menu, which will be held on Monday, September 26 at El Gran Malo. The dinner costs $110, expensive to be sure. But it will feature 10 courses in addition to three different canapes from Triniti's culinary team of Hildebrand, Jose Hernandez, Greg Lowry, Matt Lovelace and Fred Zennati. In addition to all those courses, you can also look forward to adult beverage pairings from the El Gran Malo team.

More adult beverages will be on offer the very next night at Hearsay's upcoming Scotch tasting dinner on Tuesday, September 27. The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. -- perfect timing, as parking is free downtown after 6 p.m. -- with cocktails and appetizers. The three-course dinner itself kicks off at 7 p.m. and will feature 10 year-old Glenmorangie, the sherry cask-matured Lasanta, the Port-finished Quinta Ruban and and the Single Malt Nectar D'Or. The cost is $65 a person and reservations can be made by calling 713-795-1172.

Get French at Bistro Provence.

For a more low-key (and low-cost) multi-course dinner than the Triniti affair, check out the Marjoram Dinner at Bistro Provence on Tuesday, October 4. The ninth in its popular Herbs de Provence dinner series, the bistro will feature a roasted squash, sweet potato and marjoram soup and a seafood brochette with marjoram sauce among the courses. The dinner is $48 a person (exclusive of wine pairings). Reservations can be made by calling 713-827-8008.

That weekend, take advantage of the cooler, sunny weather and head to Brenner's on the Bayou for its annual Beer Fest. More than 50 craft brews will be on hand from brewers such as Left Hand, North Coast, Deschutes, No Label and more, and light bites will be served all afternoon. The festival runs from 2 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 8, and tickets can be purchased online for $50 ($65 at the door). You can win tickets to the event, too, by heading to Brenner's Facebook page and looking for clues that will be posted on September 26 and October 3.

Lest you forget about Boss's Day this year, Baker St. Pub & Grill would like to remind you that it falls on a Sunday -- but that doesn't mean you're off the hook. If you take your boss to lunch on the preceding Friday, October 14, Baker St. will pick up your boss's tab. Just order off the pub's lunch menu -- think fish & chips or Shepherd's Pie to welcome fall back to Houston -- and your boss's lunch is on them. The restaurant will also present your boss with a Baker St. coffee mug and a gift card, which makes us wonder: How many of you will be posing as each other's bosses that Friday for a free meal?
