New York Times: No less than the New York Times visited El Real recently, and found the restaurant to be exactly what a Northern fever dream of a Tex-Mex restaurant should be, lardy beans and all.

Saveur: Houston got another national spotlight this week, this time from Saveur, in which the food magazine rides along on one of the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau's popular Houston Culinary Tours.

29-95: Although Oak Island is still recovering from Hurricane Ike -- yes, three years later, people are still recovering from the storm -- J.C. Reid has a great story about how the Hurricane Club & Restaurant has become a destination for seafood and gathering place for the locals, post-Ike.

Blue Jean Gourmet: Houston pastry chef Rebecca Masson is still going strong on Top Chef: Just Desserts, and Nishta takes that opportunity to do a rare interview on her blog, in which Masson talks baking for beginners and how to make her grandmother's famous dinner rolls.

Almost Veggie Houston: Ashli visits Brassiere 19 to see if the third chef the restaurant has hired since opening earlier this year has put the River Oaks restaurant on the right track. Her verdict? Chef Mark Schmidt is exactly what Brasserie needed.

Jack Tyler Dines: Jack takes a trip out to Pasadena to try Jimmy Changas on the eve of its expansion. The restaurant plans a second location in League City soon, with more to come. It should come as no surprise, after all, considering the owner also runs the successful Gringos and Bullritos chains.
