Coming up next weekend: Gird your pork-loving loins.
At Georgia's Farm to Market, SLGT doesn't just mean "Support Local, Grow Together." It also means "Saturday Local Get Together," when the market hosts its weekly Local Life Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This Saturday, chow down on Georgia's award-winning brunch buffet while you listen to local musician Benjamin Wesley (you'll also recognize him as one of the baristas from Catalina Coffee) and enjoy a beer tasting from Saint Arnold. In addition, the Saturday Harvest Farmers Market will run from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., featuring local craftsmen, artisans and farmers.

Next weekend, on August 27, you'll want to make the drive north to Hubbell & Hudson -- and not just because it's our own homegrown version of Central Market, making it one of the coolest grocery stores in town. The Woodlands grocery store is hosting Baconpalooza, a one-day event celebrating all things bacon. According to the store's Facebook page, you can expect a lot of the following (deep breath!):

bacon bloody mary, bacon tomato soup, chicken & fried bacon, shrimp wrapped in bacon, bacon & hatch poppers, bacon jam, bacon vodka, bacon wrapped meatloaf, bacon jalapeño cheese bread, cinnamon bacon, maple crusted bacon, man bait maple bacon pop, bacon chocolate pancake mix, bacon spread, bacon brittle, bacon soda, irish bacon, bacon popcorn, baconnaise, bacon ranch dressing, bacon croutons, bacon gravy, bacon lip balm, bacon salt, bacon envelopes, bacon maple ice cream, bacon maple cheese cake, bacon red velvet cup cakes, chocolate dipped bacon, bacon caramel green apple, turkey bacon, canadian bacon, irish bacon, hickory bacon, apple smoked bacon, kentucky bacon, italian bacon pancetta & more

Good God, y'all. It's as if Bubba Blue loved bacon instead of shrimp.

Celebrate Houston's birthday next weekend at Market Square Park.
The next day, head downtown to Market Square Park, where the beautifully redeveloped urban oasis will be celebrating Houston's 175th anniversary. Performances by Interactive Theater will demonstrate Houston's history from the days when it was just a small trading post on Buffalo Bayou, while goodies from Frosted Betty, Angie's Cake and Cupcakes-a-Go-Go will be on sale for $1.75. You're welcome to bring your own goodies for a picnic, but Niko Niko's will be open for business (and selling beer, wine and margaritas, too!).

This weekend is the grand opening of the bar at Sorrel Urban Bistro. Tonight and tomorrow night starting at 9 p.m., the bar will be offering well drinks, wines on tap, and domestic beer for only $3 a pop. Plus, you'll get to munch on the bistro's flatbreads for free.

If you haven't been keeping track of the ongoing Les Sauvages supper club series on Twitter, pay attention: Tickets to the next dinner go on sale today. The September 12 dinner will feature former Houstonian and pastry chef wunderkind Plinio Sandalio, in from Austin, for a 40-seat supper. There are also still a few seats left for the upcoming August 29 dinner with Mike Sammons of 13 Celsius. Tickets are $115 a person and will go fast.

Bacon red velvet cupcakes? Might have to make my way over to Baconpalooza next week...and then walk 9 hours back home - sounds intriguing!
