The annual Best of Houston® issue is about to get even bestier. Our first ever Bestfest, celebrating our 23rd Best of Houston® issue, is gearing up to be a two-day festival celebrating music, booze and food on September 24 and 25.

Bestfest will take place in that big grassy field right off the McGowen line on the light rail -- you know, across Main Street from Leon's -- that's bordered by Anita, McGowen, Travis and Main. Artists will be announced soon on our music blog, Rocks Off, so stay tuned; we picked some winners for you, as we're known to do...

Tonight, however, you can enjoy music and food of a different variety at the weekly Mixers & Elixers social event held each Friday at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Need we remind you that the popular event is in its final year? No, so go while you still can. Tonight's food will be from some of our favorite food trucks, too: No Borders, Frosted Betty, It's a Wrap and The Rolling Hunger.

Tomorrow night, Molina's will be officially celebrating its 70th anniversary at the end of a month that's been filled with lunch, dinner and drink specials from the venerated Tex-Mex joint. The party takes place from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Washington Avenue location, and promises to be one hell of a blowout: tequila tastings, free appetizers, mariachis, prize giveaways and more will be found, along with beer and other goodies at the cash bar.

And next Friday, head over to Xuco Xicana (also known as El XX, for sake of both brevity and pronunciation) for something that Evan Turner is calling the 56th Annual Carmen Miranda Honorarium. We always loved it when Turner threw similar events at Branch Water Tavern, and are excited to see him doing the same at El XX. And it's not just an excuse to drink wicked strong margaritas; it's also an excuse to don fruit-covered turbans and live a little, people.

The night after that, it's White Linen Night in the Heights once again, and everyone's participating: Jenni's Noodle House is hosting a graffiti lounge in its restaurant, with all of the city's favorite graffiti and wheatpaste artists. Carter & Cooley is hosting a photo exhibit of old black-and-white prints, fitting for its retro aesthetic. The new BB's Cajun Cafe will be boiling blue crabs all night as a special treat for its guests. And if you haven't tried Happy Fatz yet, now's your chance; they'll be offering samples all night.
