Five Cereals That Double As Dessert

Which of these cereals made it onto our list?
Crème brûlée French toast, butterscotch oatmeal, chocolate chip pancakes: The line between dessert and breakfast has never been blurrier. Cereal has always been my snack of choice outside the morning hours, but lately I've been indulging in some more decadent varieties to satisfy my post-dinner sweet tooth. Here are my five favorite cereals that double as dessert:

5. Strawberry Delight Frosted Mini-Wheats

I used to mash these into my ice cream and then realized they were perfectly delightful with plain milk. The "strawberry" flavor is hardly natural, but the balance between the (real) hearty grain and artificial frosting makes for a sweet and filling conclusion to an evening meal.

Enhancement Tip: Mix with real sliced strawberries and sub in coconut soy milk.

4. Golden Grahams

Crunchy, sugar-frosted Golden Grahams are a souped-up version of the standard cracker. They don't get soggy in milk and actually have enough whole grains and fiber to prevent post-dinner coma.

Enhancement Tip: Sprinkle in miniature marshmallows and chocolate chips and microwave entire concoction for a warm s'mores cereal experience.

3. Cookie Crisp

Cookies for breakfast? Cookie Crisp definitely has some identity issues. It's far better after seven p.m., especially if you need some additional energy for an extended evening of reality tv watching.

Enhancement Tip: Mix with warm chocolate milk for an extra-big spike in blood sugar.

2. Caramel Nut Crunch

It's the clusters that elevate Caramel Nut Crunch from healthful boring morning meal to decadent dessert. Chunks of caramel-flavored rice stuck together with pecan and walnut bits are just slightly less than saccharine and pair nicely with the tamer glazed flakes.

Enhancement Tip: Sub in almond milk and sprinkle a dash of butterscotch chips for additional sweet-savory nuttiness.

1. General Mills' Reese's Puffs

The peanut butter and cocoa individually flavored puffs are like Kix on crack. Fine, so Reese's Puffs aren't as good as the candy, but they also aren't quite as fattening, so don't hesitate to reach for a second helping.

Enhancement Tip: Mix with ice-cold whole milk (or, dare I say, half and half!) to increase richness factor.

Cocoa Pebbles. Done. Also try crumbling and sprinkling on chocolate mousse.

I love Caramel Nut Crunch, but haven't seen it in over a year. Any tips on where to find it?

I used to eat Lucky Charms cereal with Hershey's chocolate syrup instead of milk. What? You got a problem with that? It was DELICIOUS!

Online fans say it's been discontinued but I swear I saw in at GIANT (in Pennsylvania) over the holidays. (sorry that is to particularly helpful to us here in Houston).

Sounds delightful!
