Keep on Truckin': A Specialty Fusion Taco

Fusion1.JPG
Each week, I'll be visiting a different food truck and reviewing one of their items. Know of a particular food truck I should move to the top of my list? Let me know in the comments section.

This week, I made a stop by Fusion Taco at the Urban Harvest City Hall Market. It was my first time there, and I was overwhelmed by the abundance of booths selling and sampling all kinds of goodies. If I hadn't been on my lunch break, I might have found myself lounging by the reflection pool, shoveling Houston Dairymaids cheeses into my mouth for hours.

But since I had to get back to the office, I was there for one thing and one thing only -- a specialty chicken masala taco. I'd seen the announcement on Twitter and taken off faster than a mongoose.

The line was decent. I thought I was beating the rush by arriving right at eleven (when they open), but nope. I was wrong. I can only imagine what the folks at the Haute Wheels Festival went through. My wait was a mere 15 minutes, but when you're traveling at mongoose-like speeds, you work up quite an appetite. I was hungry.

Now, if you're familiar with tikka masala, you probably know that it doesn't exactly look appetizing. But don't let that fool you. It's quite delicious. And Fusion Taco's was a hit -- large chunks of roasted chicken in a creamy spiced curry sauce with tomatoes and cucumber, topped with raita (a yogurt sauce), and served on grilled naan bread. YUM.

I can't handle too much spice (I know, I'm a weakling), but this was just the right amount. Plus, with that cooling raita sauce, it was the perfect balance -- delicious.

If you have a hankering for Fusion Taco, find out where the truck is located and hit 'em up. Fusion's Facebook and Twitter feeds will keep you updated on its whereabouts. As for how fast you get there, you're on your own.

Stacy, it would be great if you could include a comment from each vendor on whether they use local/humanly-raised meats and or eggs on a regular basis. I'm learning which vendors are more conscious of this matter but it would be helpful for the guys I don't know yet...Love this idea by the way : )

Get to Mygogi. Was outside Brian O Neills in Rice Village last time I checked. Amazing Koren fusion tacos and the OMG fries are addicting.

Goddammit, I knew I should have ordered that yesterday! (At the Art Car parade.) Our lettuce wraps were divine though.

I'm throwing out Bansuri as a suggestion. It doesn't get nearly enough love, and it's one of the original food trucks in town as well as one of the best.

My friend had the truck come to cater her private party last year.  I remember it being pretty good but she was 2 hours late to the party.  And chicken tikka masala taco sounds awesome.  Bombay Pizza has a very similar kati roll.  Food Fight?

Thanks for the suggestions Cheflambo and TQ.  I shall order the pork snuggies and Pretzel ROCKS.  I am meeting a very prominent EOW commenter there tomorrow night to try it out.
