Galveston's Food and Wine Festival by the Sea

As someone who will take practically any excuse to head to the beach, I was very excited to learn that this weekend Galveston will be hosting the 2011 Food and Wine Festival. This is going to be a four-day event extending from today through Sunday.

Everything kicks off with a wine dinner at Rudy and Paco's tonight, followed by the Premium Tasting and Gulf Seafood Showcase on Friday night. Saturday is when I'll be heading down to check out the Grand Tasting in the park from 1 to 6 p.m. They are promising good food to nibble on, a band to liven up the party, and offerings from more than 20 different vineyards, all for $45 a ticket. Definitely not a bad way to spend an afternoon.

Then on the 17th, you can kick off Sunday Funday with a champagne brunch. There are several to choose from, but I'm expecting some really good things from the historically elegant Hotel Galvez.

There will also be dinners and smaller events sprinkled throughout the whole weekend, so be sure to check out their website for all the details.

Just as an FYI the food was awesome and the wine reasonably priced at Rudy & Pacos but perhaps some of the worst service ever. My husband and I ate there in Feb when we went to Galveston for the weekend - it was recommended to us. Our waiter had a four top and a six top besides us and we were virutally ignored throughout the meal and to top it off we ordered after dinner drinks and dessert - the drinks arrived but the dessert never did and the waiter just dropped our check off and ignored us some more. The other 2 waiters working our section looked like they were on it - we got bad luck of the draw. :(
