Food Meme of the Week: Women Being Suggestive with Burgers

Picture-216.jpg
Snack time at the institution!
By now, you may have seen the original Women Laughing Alone with Salads meme. Or perhaps its spinoff meme: Men Laughing Alone with Salads. No? Then please take a moment to acquaint yourself with these, my most favorite food-related memes in a while.

Ads are absurd enough as it is. When the stock photo used for the ad is removed from within the framework of the ad itself and is forced to stand alone, it becomes even more sublimely bizarre. Who are these mad women holding salads aloft and contorting their faces in forced glee? THEY ARE US.

At least, the us that we want to be after being surrounded with ads all day long. The us that we're told to be, eating these salads alone with ecstasy that borders on mania. Happy consumers! Happy, slim consumers!

This kind of existential little project -- removing the context surrounding an ad and thereby stripping the ad of its power, admitting that it's a subtle form of mind control -- may not have been what Hairpin intended when it put the initial series together. They may have just found these women amusing.

And they are. So in that same vein, we present our own take on the meme (one that's far more fitting for Eating Our Words): Women Being Suggestive with Burgers.

As you view these stock photos, ask yourself: What is it about burgers that cause them -- and women's reactions -- to be portrayed in such a sensual, often suggestive manner? Would people be more inclined to eat healthy food if it was similarly portrayed? Would a man be posed in the same suggestive way as these women? Is it lunch time, and is Christian's Tailgate open?

@Jeff And I like how you seem to have no idea what article you were reading and what photos you were looking at.

Mmmmm nothing gets me in the mood like a broad putting her lips on some ground up hog anus.

Wouldn't hot dogs have been more appropriate to the "suggestive" theme?

the thought of the author cramming a burger in her boca del gordo makes me ill.

People would be more inclined to eat healthy food if it was affordable.

Let's take the gay-haters over at Chik-fil-A for example. They offer, basically, two chicken sandwiches, the fried sandwich and the grilled sandwich. The unhealthy, fried sandwich costs about $5.25. The healthy, chargrilled sandwich costs ~6 dollars. I'm sure they justify the extra cost because there's lettuce and (I think) tomato on the sandwich, and it comes on a "fancier" bun, but would it kill them to offer the basic Chic-fil-A sandwich with a the grilled chicken breast instead of the fried chicken breast? I don't believe it costs any more to grill a chicken breast than it does to fry it.

You can see examples of this sort of bullshit in pretty much every fast food restaurant.

Do you think those Niko Niko breakfast ads are suggestive of anything?

The way those sandwiches are stacked.

The cost of the sandwich is not decided by the cost of the ingredients; it's decided by supply and demand. More people are willing to pay more for the chargrilled sandwich, therefore it costs more. If significant numbers of people stopped buying it, its price would come down. Chik-Fil-A have no need to justify the price because of tomato or lettuce or anything else.

Why are so many people convinced that the cost of a product is supposed to be the total cost of its component parts? This has simply never been the case for any product anywhere in all of human history. Not even under Communism.

Trans fats, HFCS and other junk food additives are reportedly "addictive." The pusher man gives you the first taste for free (or, cheap).

Not sure why you call them "gay-haters" - they're Christians, sure, but never seen any anti-gay bias when I've eaten there, and I know at least two of the servers at my local establishment have been gay.But... Chik-fil-A's sandwiches are not as expensive as you are painting them (unless you get the combo meal). It is true that the "plain" chicken sandwich (with pickles on a regular bun) is only $2.79, but the Chargrilled comes with lettuce and tomato on top of the usual pickles, and the oh-so-fancy "Golden Wheat" bun (why is that capitalized?!). The Chargrilled clocks in at $3.45 - about 65 cents for vegetables and the fancy bun. To compare, the "Deluxe" version of the fried sandwich is about $3.59, including the same toppings and bun as the Chargrilled, but also includes cheese - for 14 cents more. Not unreasonable if you actually do the research.

Great. Now I'm hungry. Chik-fil-A run!

That's the whole idea of the meme, if you looked at the others. Stock photos. Used out of context.

I'm not really sure how you can use chick-fil-a in an argument about eating healthier, even their grilled sandwich is not healthy. If you want to eat healthy it's called going to the grocery store and making your own meals which is cheaper than eating fast food.

Mr Penismouth:Chickfila are entitled to support whatever causes they choose, and Meriwether is entitled to call them gayhaters. He can call them gayhaters even if they're not practicing any employment discrimination.

Chik-Fil-A is a private company and is entitled to support whatever causes they choose. They have no actual history of discrimination in terms of service or employment. A man could walk in there with a big penis in his mouth and order a sandwich, and they'd serve him.
