If you aren't in the mood to bake this Thanksgiving on top of all the cooking you'll be doing, why not help out some needy pups while you purchase those pies? Pastry chef Rebecca Masson is selling her fabulous pecan pies (with a shortbread crust!) for $25 each, $5 of which goes to Corridor Rescue. The pies can be purchased online and picked up either November 23 or November 24 at Natural Pawz in the Heights, but quantities are limited so order while you still can.

Too much talk about politics and religion at your family dinners on Sunday nights? We can't promise that those topics won't come up at Catalan's Chef's Family Table, but we can at least promise that the food will probably be a lot better. Each Sunday evening, Chef Chris Shepherd dishes up a multi-course meal from 6 to 8:30 p.m. for a ridiculously low sum of $35 per person. As you might imagine, the 20-person table fills up fast, so recommendations are required. Call 713-426-4260 to book your spot for November 21's Creole meal or November 28's Italian feast.

Before you fill up on food on November 21, though, head down to Alvin and fill up on wine. The Barbed Rose Steakhouse is hosting the town's First Annual Wine Festival on November 20 from 2 to 5 p.m. There's a price point for every budget, too: $25 gets you a selection of samples at The Burger Bar (The Barbed Rose's little sister next door) while $45 gets you premium samples from The Barbed Rose's dining room. If you haven't had your fill of helping unlucky dogs in need of rescue (and, honestly, who gets their fill of something like that?!), Voice is hosting its third annual Christmas Tale on November 30 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. This is always one of our favorite events and with good reason: Some of the city's most talented chefs and pastry chefs compete to see who can craft the most gorgeous gingerbread house. See last year's slideshow for examples of the ingenuity and delicacy of these creations.

This year, more than 20 chefs will be competing, from pastry queens such as Katie Leggett, Claudia Rice and Audrey Sam to savory kings such as Justin Basye, Brett Sparman and Adison Lee. Tickets are available for a suggested donation of $25, which goes to benefit Lucky Dog Rescue, and gets you -- as a guest -- yummy bites and voting rights.
