This weekend, Discovery Green is getting fresh. As mentioned earlier today by Nancy Kerschen, a Slow Food Picnic Dinner will take place tomorrow evening from 6 to 8 p.m. on the verdant lawn of Houston's best downtown park. $45 a person gets you food from local restaurants like Haven, t'afia, Raven Grill and Zelko Bistro as well as local vendors like Slow Dough Bread Co. and Georgia's Farm to Market.
Next weekend, celebrate the bounty of fresh, local, seasonal foods all over again at Wood Duck Farm's latest farm dinner with guest chef Jon Buchanan of Trevisio. The tempting menu for Saturday, November 13, includes fall-inspired dishes like roasted pork loin with head cheese and pâté, pumpkin soup with crème fraiche and a pecan tart with fresh whipped cream. It's a can't-miss dinner for two reasons: Chef Buchanan is fresh off a hard-earned win at the recent Risotto Festival and, more importantly, this is the very last of the All Star Chef series of farm dinners, which also includes a tour of the farm itself. Seats are $75 per person (gratuity included; BYOB) and always sell out, so get yours while you still can.
As mentioned last week, head over to Dirk's Coffee from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 6, for Cup 'o Caring, a pottery sale benefiting the Houston Food Bank. Dozens of handmade mugs from the students at Foelber Pottery will be for sale, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting the Food Bank.

After you've gotten your caffeine and pottery fix, head over to 4411 Montrose for My Table's Art Bites afternoon of hors d'oeuvres and art as you browse the galleries. Food from Prego, D'Amico's and Khun Kay will be on hand, and it's free if you're a My Table or SideDish (the magazine's newsletter) subscriber. RSVP here for the event, which runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Also this weekend is one of the most overlooked yet enjoyable food-based festivals of the year: the Turkic Cultures and Children's Festival (or Turkic Fest for short). The Turkic Fest is now in its 4th year just outside City Hall in Hermann Plaza and continues to grow. On Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., enjoy traditional Turkish cuisine and culture, including plenty of kebabs, doner, coffee and baklava. Tickets are a mere $5 at the gate and children under 7 are free.
