Odd Pair: LuLu & White Cheddar Cheez-its

I know what you're all thinking: What the *#@! is a LuLu? Well, apparently in Oklahoma, they like to give their wines cute names and cute bottles. Next question: Did she say Oklahoma? Yes, yes I did. A friend of mine visited the Stone Bluff Cellars winery just outside of Tulsa in a small town called Haskell. My gift for house-sitting was this darling bottle of wine, which is labeled as "grape wine with natural and artificial flavors." Intriguing.

Despite any misgivings I might have had, I decided to try the sweet red with a handful of my favorite snack: white cheddar Cheez-Its. The two actually paired together surprisingly well. LuLu is a fruit-forward wine with notes of blackberry, raspberry and cherry. The berries were well suited to the tanginess of the white cheddar cracker, and the sweetness of the wine complemented the dryness of the cracker quite well. It was an afternoon delight.
