Double Cross Lounge: A Place for Vodka
With all the Prohibition Era cocktails swirling around our city lately, the once untouchable vodka has started to get a bad rap. Double Cross Lounge (114 Gray St) is setting out to change all that. A swank little bar housed in the old Tasting Room location, Double Cross Lounge is at once both chic and laidback. The poetry on the walls, paisley ceilings, and striking black and silver motif suggest opulence, while the smiling staff offer you a comfortable place to sit, snack, and enjoy a delicious vodka cocktail.
What makes Double Cross Lounge different is that they have Double Cross vodka on tap, served at zero degrees. The bar itself is an expression of modern beauty, with silver bowls overflowing with fresh fruit perched on a bed of ice. Anthony Montz of Hearsay is mixing up tasty beverages for guests, including seasonal themed treats such as the subtly spiced Chilean Baby Pear Martini, which features a sugar clove rim, and the decadently sweet apple martini made with fresh apples. I promise it tastes nothing like the neon-green drink you're used to.
This is a vodka lover's paradise, but if the clear stuff isn't really your thing, there are also plenty of other options. Try the Old Fashioned "New School", which is mixture of bourbon, Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur, Satsuma Orange Juice, Bitters, and a cherry. It's a nice twist on a classic.
And if all that drinking makes you hungry, rest assured that Double Cross has you covered with a menu from Hearsay's executive chef, Nick Banaszak, which in addition to a beautiful cheese plate, includes foods that pair well with vodka, such as smoked salmon and caviar.
