Odd Pair: Pineapple Upside Down Cake & Chardonnay-Viognier

Categories: Odd Pair

Just shy of December, I have already received my first Christmas gift: a lovely bottle of 2007 "Duet" Chardonnay-Viognier by Louis Latour. It is an elegant-looking bottle that promises to be crisp and refreshing, and it does not disappoint. The Chardonnay gives the beverage a sharpness that is somewhat softened out by the purity of the Viognier grapes. Flowery and fruity, this wine pairs exceptionally well with a big hunk of gooey pineapple upside down cake.

There is something so retro chic about putting on a frilly apron and baking a pineapple upside down cake. It fills you with the warmth of many generations of female ancestry, as well as filling the kitchen with a delightfully sweet aroma that will have your neighbors stopping by in droves. And when you're playing Susie Homemaker, nothing fits better than ending the day with a full glass of white wine.
