Sampler Plate: This Week in Food Blogs
Each week, we put together a sampler plate of the most interesting links from both local and national food blogs. Know a blog we should be paying particular attention to? Leave the address in the comments section below.
Dear Judy, F.Y.E.: This food blogger has been at it longer than most in town, writing for outlets like Houstonist, among others, so I trust her when she relates an experience at the newly opened Flora & Muse gone horribly awry. Judy Le is not prone to hyperbole, making her tale of epically bad service at the restaurant that much more painful to read.
Fight Stupidization: Local playwright Crystal Jackson doesn't write about food very often on her blog, so when she does, you know it's good. Here's her rapturous take on the duck fat French fries at new west Houston destination The Burger Guys.
Shut Up, Foodies: This isn't a local blog (that I'm aware of), but it offers fantastic perspectives on food that often get lost in all the fanaticism and abject worship. This week's target? The spaghetti tacos popularized by a show called iCarly and one Houston mommy blogger.
Houston Foodie: J.C. Reid takes a look at one of my favorite dishes in any restaurant: the enormous and varied banda paisa plate served at Colombian joints like Mi Pueblito and Tierra Colombianas.
CultureMap: Gooey, sticky, sweet cinnamon rolls that are actually good...and vegan? Joel Luks at CultureMap partners up with Brittany Carnes at Sinfull Bakery to see how it's done.
Guns and Tacos: Finally, vote for Guns and Tacos' own Jay Rascoe in *ahem* CNN's Heroes contest...if you dare.
