A Taste of Peru at Spec's and Charivari
Perhaps it's because we've never been there, but images of alpacas, Pisco and Machu Picchu account for much of our knowledge of Peru. We're hoping that changes this month with a grand showing of Peruvian products and samplings at Spec's Smith Street location. ![]()

In addition to a large display and special section of Peruvian food and beverages in the store, there will be samplings every Saturday this month of various products. The largest tasting of Peruvian foods, wines, beer and non-alcoholic beverages will be Saturday, October 23, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The month-long celebration commemorates the arrival of the first Peruvian wines ever available to the Houston public (not surprisingly - at Spec's).
If that's not enough Peru love for you, there's also a wine pairing dinner at Charivari, located at 2521 Bagby at McGowen on Tuesday, October 26, at 7 p.m. Featuring Intipalka wines and traditional Peruvian dishes prepared by Chef Johann Schuster, the six-course dinner and pairing will set you back $48. See the full menu and pairings here. For reservations, call 713-521-7231.
