Sampler Plate: This Week In Food Blogs

Categories: Leftovers

Each week, we put together a sampler plate of the most interesting links from both local and national food blogs. Know a blog we should be paying particular attention to? Leave the address in the comments section below.

The Mighty Rib: Kevin's been on the road lately and reviewing restaurants far outside the Loop...or even the Beltway! And bestill my heart, he tried Al's #1 Italian Beef in Chicago. And loved it. Excuse me...I think there's something in my eye...

Foodie Houston: A wedge salad made with "Texas peaches, buttermilk dressing and feta cheese" (according to Jodie)? Benjy's brunch just made the must-try list with that one.

Cook's Tour: The Chron's Alison Cook tries out a new Moroccan place in town -- one of only two that I know of -- after Jay Francis discovered Casablanca Couscous & Grill in the spot formerly occupied by Miguelito's. With the passing of one rare cuisine in Houston (Venezuelan, in the case of Miguelito's), it's at least heartening to see that another rare cuisine cropped up instead of another Burger King.

City of Ate: Dallas food critic Hanna Raskin says it all with this headline: Want to Go Texan? Try Going Elsewhere. It turns out that Dallas restaurants aren't terribly interested in celebrating Texas food during Go Texan week. Gee, I can't imagine that. /sarcasm

Dallas Morning News: Yes, two Dallas posts in a row, but this is too funny to pass up. The DMN's food critic, Leslie Brenner, recently found herself confounded when a server's answer to what kind of cheese was on her cheese plate was just "Fromage." Here's the backstory, which verges on the surreal. For more nyuks, check out DallasFood.org's post on the incident in its forums.
