A Second Chance at The Chocolate Bar

I quickly forgave The Chocolate Bar for my mediocre slice of Really Rocky Road Cake. It wasn't hard. I'm far too much of a cocoa-crazed fiend to spurn the town's only establishment solely dedicated to my drug.

As some readers pointed out, I probably should have immediately returned the cake and given TCB a chance to redeem itself right then and there by offering me an alternative. Problem was, I was already at home in my footie pajamas. Instead, I just waited until I had another intense chocolate craving and ordered something different.

My choice: "The Any Day's a Holiday" cake, because, well, it is for me every time I spend that much on dessert. As the clerk liberally drizzled my mega-slice with chocolate sauce, I grew nervous anticipating what sort of awkward conversation might ensue if this cake experience was as bad (or worse) than my previous one.

But there was nothing to complain about with this cake. The alternating yellow and chocolate layers were incredibly moist, and the evenly dispersed thick "ice box" frosting had that wonderful taste of salted butter and rich milk chocolate. It had been a while since I have had "yellow" cake, and I had forgotten how much I enjoy the extra egginess of its flavor.

I tore through that slice like a 12-year-old with the latest installment of Harry Potter and only halted when stomach expansion seemed no longer possible. While TCB's claim that "one slice is enough for two or more" may be true for most of its desserts, I doubt any chocoholic can exhibit such restraint with this particular cake.
