Sashimi at Sushi Miyagi: A Picture Is Worth a Thousand Words

This week's cafe review of Sushi Miyagi couldn't possibly capture with words alone how vibrantly beautiful all of the sashimi was. Luckily, we're now running slideshows along with all of our restaurant reviews each week. Have you seen them yet?

The sashimi isn't the only beautiful artwork in the restaurant, however. The paintings and collages lining the walls of the restaurant -- from chair rail to ceiling -- were all made by the cheerful Mrs. Miyagi herself, wife of owner and sushi chef Miyagi (like Cher or Madonna, he goes by one name only). And most of them are for sale, for about as much as a table of four might spend in a night there.

The handmade artwork reflects the artisanal, finely crafted aesthetic of Sushi Miyagi's food: This is clearly a restaurant in which the owners are putting their heart and soul into everything they do, whether it be a painting or a platter of fresh fish. Miyagi -- the man and his restaurant -- are true hidden gems in Houston.
