Aghastronome: That's right, Houston's own Bryan Caswell will be competing on the upcoming third season of Iron Chef. I'm not nearly as excited about the new Iron Chef season as I am about AMC's decision to make The Walking Dead into a series (holy hell, have you seen the trailer?), but -- like Mary Jane -- I will definitely be tuning in for the Caswell episode. Will you?

Dude, You Going To Eat That?: Dr. Ricky has had a series of strong posts lately, and this is my recent favorite: an account of breaking Ramadan fast at Bundu Khan, where the meal is less about the food itself and more about the communal, often sacred act of breaking bread with your friends and neighbors.

Houston Food Adventures: Samba Grille had its soft opening earlier this week and many folks dropped by to check it out and provide their feedback (I went just last night and enjoyed it much more than I expected to like a churrascaria). Phaedra and her photographer husband, Chuck, checked out Samba's lunch service and reported back on her blog.

29-95: For the want of a good, messy cheesesteak, Syd provided a list of great Houston-area sandwiches for a local man who was craving the same stuff he used to get at a place called Arnold's in Conroe. I'm pretty impressed with the list of sandwiches she ran down; readers, do you have any others to add?

ROFLHouse: Matt has been working his way through the city's best dining establishments during Houston Restaurant Week...er...Month. His latest meal at Haven seems to confirm the consensus that the restaurant is one of the most solid choices for an HRW diner, with offerings like jumbo lump crab cakes and wild head-on shrimp.

City of Ate: I'll leave you this week with a link to our sister paper's food blog in Dallas, where the Houston food scene's seemingly never diminishing penchant for drama has spilled over into another city entirely. The comments section here is comedy gold.
