Raul Dominguez's Playitas

Not only did he incite fervency in the crowd at the Iron Bartender competition recently, he also knows how to charm the bar patrons at Yelapa Playa Mexicana (2303 Richmond). We can't get enough of his sweet and spicy creations, such as the oft-yearned-for chipotle strawberry daiquiri.

On a recent visit, we tried to obtain one of these, but Dominguez insisted we try his new creation, which he called "Playitas" after a small beach town in El Salvador. With the interplay of sweet strawberry syrup, fresh coconut water and caliente habanero, this is the perfect patio drink to keep you hydrated and satisfied while making damn sure your taste buds are not taking a siesta.

Playitas

1.5 ounces of Strawberry Habanero syrup
2 ounces of Coconut water (the one with the coconut meat diced)
1 ounce Cruzan Coconut Rum
1 ounce Cruzan Silver Rum
Light splash of pineapple juice
Strawberry garnish

In a mixing glass combine all ingredients add ice and shake pour content out into a Collins glass.

One taste and you will surely be transported to the tranquil blue waters and white sandy beaches. Well, probably not, but it sure will taste good and get make you a little tipsy.
