$7 at Taqueria Lulu

What $7 gets you: A fajita chicken torta ($5.25) and a veggie taco ($1.50), with 25 cents to spare - not including tax. The torta was mediocre, but satisfied a craving for beans, guacamole, shredded lettuce and cheese on a bun, plus it came with some mondo home fries.

Surprisingly, the veggie taco, which was ordered with low expectations, kicked ass. The mix of carrots, zucchini and squash was cooked to a perfect consistency. They weren't too crunchy, nor were they rendered limp and lifeless by overcooking. The vegetables were also perfectly seasoned, with no hint of grease. With finely shredded lettuce and chopped tomatoes as the finishing touch, this surprising little gem had great texture and flavor.

Recommended: If you're in the mood for something quick, cheap and around the Museum District, yes. If you want a torta, it would suffice, but there are much better options around. For veggie taco lovers (all seven of you), this is the best in town for sure.

Taqueria Lulu also has plate lunch specials that come with rice, beans and some of those delicious vegetables used in the veggie tacos. Just seeing one of the plates leave the kitchen gave us diner's remorse...Next time, we'll order that.

Bonus points: Two words: Mexican Coke.
