Here's your chance to not only taste some of the best bourbon cocktails and bourbon-infused dishes in the city, but to meet -- yes, face-to-face -- the recently departed Robb Walsh. The long-awaited Bourbon Throwdown is this Monday, April 12, at Branchwater Tavern starting at 5 p.m. The fifth such throwdown organized by Jenny Wang and the Houston Chowhounds, this more intimate event will feature six chefs and six mixologists competing to showcase Maker's Mark bourbon in the most inventive and delicious ways possible. Judging the event will be Robb Walsh, Bear Dalton and me, among others. Tickets are available for purchase online, but hurry and purchase them while you can -- they'll sell out fast.

If you go to the Bourbon Throwdown, make sure you save some stomach room! The very next night, our annual Menu of Menus extravaganza is taking place at West Ave with food, wine and beer samples from more than 40 of Houston's best restaurants. Be smart and purchase VIP tickets for $75, which allow you to beat the crowds and start chowing down at 6 p.m. -- an hour earlier than general admission folks. Regular tickets are $35 in advance or $45 at the door, and remember to leave the kiddies at home: This event is 21 and up only.

The following night -- if you aren't already too exhausted -- is the Orange Show's annual Art Car Parade Kickoff Party on April 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. If you haven't seen the new Saint Arnold brewery yet, this is a perfect time to check it out, as the party will be held at its new facility at 2000 Lyons. Of course, the party will be well-supplied with plenty of ice cold Saint Arnold beer in addition to art cars galore, so come kick off the parade season in style.
