Food and Fun Festival: Houston Press's Menu of Menus

The Houston Press's annual gastronomical extravaganza, Menu of Menus, is fast approaching. Last year was my first year to attend and let me tell you, it was amazingly fun. Walking from booth to booth and sampling so many styles and flavors of cuisine was not only a treat, but surprisingly satisfying. It took all my willpower to keep going, but I was determined to leave no restaurant unturned, no food untasted. Luckily, breaks were abundant between dancing to the fabulous music and meeting tons of new food friends.

This year's fest looks like it might turn out even better. From the huge array of delicious eateries around town -- some old favorites, some promising new ones -- to the live music by Faye Robinson & The Mid City Players, the likelihood for a having great time is undeniable. Add in some wine, beer and spirit tastings, and the party is definitely on. Personally, I'm particularly looking forward to imbibing some tapioca tea drinks from The Teahouse while nibbling on some fresh sushi from Sushi King and then ending the whole thing with a sweet treat from Ooh La La bakery. Oh, and don't forget to stop by Shipley Do-Nuts's booth towards the end of the night, because last year I walked away with a whole friggin' box of their sinfully decadent donuts gratis. A whole box!

Menu of Menus is taking place on Tuesday April 13, at West Ave on 2800 Kirby Drive between Alabama and Westheimer. General admission tickets are only $35 and are valid from 7 to 10 p.m. Buy your tickets online or pay $45 at the door. If you want to come an hour early, get the VIP tix and get ahead of everyone by coming in at 6 p.m. Guests must be 21 and up, so leave the kiddies at home. Not only will it be a great weekday party, but you're also doing a good thing, because proceeds benefit Discovery Green and The Center for Hearing and Speech. Fun and charitable - aren't you lucky you decided to go? We hope to see you there!
