Over the course of the next few months, I'm counting down 100 of my favorite Houston dishes. I chose some because they are such quintessential Houston creations, others because of their cultural or historical significance and others just because they are so damn tasty.

# 100. Green chile chicken kebabs at Chatkhara Grill, Highway 6 and Beechnut

Beechnutistan cuisine at its finest! Jalapeño? Serrano? Maybe a curly Tabasco? Whatever kind of green chile pepper the chef is using, this place has the spiciest chicken kebabs I've ever eaten--and they are a ridiculous bargain at $1.75 each. The fresh-baked hot bread is 89¢ extra. The mint and tamarind chutneys are free. So two spicy kebabs and hot bread come to a little over $4. Don't miss the bargains on Indo-Paki-Asian foods at World Food Warehouse, Highway 6 and Beechnut.
