You Can't Knock the Wurst!

A sandwich and a beer is pretty much one of our favorite things in the whole world. We had an incredible heap of sandwich bliss last week at Kahn's Deli. It's called the "Olajuwon."

Fans of the old Kahn's Deli on Rice Blvd. in the Rice Village know it has had a make-over and is under new management/ownership. Several people have said "it's just not the same"; others are just plain brokenhearted about the ordeal. When we ask them if they've been to the "new Kahn's," some have simply shaken their heads and held back the tears, claiming they just can't bring themselves to do it.

Well, the menu may have changed a bit -- and we'll concede the new incarnation may never have the same charm -- but we think sandwiches like the "Olajuwon" Reuben will win anyone's heart back. This is a half pound of Kahn's special corned beef with melted Swiss and cheddar, Kahn's own neon Russian dressing, sauerkraut and knockwurst stuffed between pumpernickel (we think it's from Kraftsmen Bakery) for $14.99. New management, old management: Who cares?
