Sampler Plate: This Week In Food Blogs

Categories: Leftovers

Each week, we put together a sampler plate of the most interesting links from both local and national food blogs. Know a blog we should be paying particular attention to? Leave the address in the comments section below.

Dude, You Going To Eat That: What begins as a simple question on Filipino cuisine evolves into an interesting discussion of Western eating practices vs. Eastern, and the idea that many people eat these days to finish a given portion instead of to interact on a social level. Dr. Ricky's point of view on this topic is fascinating as usual.

Cheap Eats In Houston: Our favorite local frugalista (you can also catch the dining deals on Twitter) has a bevy of bargains today on the food blog. This one in particular is for a $7.99 dining deal at Fuddruckers that includes a 1/3-pound burger, fries and a drink. (And encourages your inner artist...)

Fred Eats Houston: Fred has the scoop on another dessert destination that's coming to the Heights (aside from Pie In the Sky): the Dessert Shoppe, which is opening soon on 19th Street.

29-95: It shouldn't be this hard to order a pizza. Syd takes on the Big Pizza Chain system with amusing results.

Food In Houston: We've saved the worst for last. Our favorite Houston food blog is on an indefinite hiatus. Needless to say, this was a terrible birthday present last week. We'll miss you terribly, Anonymous Eater...

And on the national scene...

Serious Eats: Holiday stress getting to you? Family dinners got you feeling stabby? Just relax and make yourself a nice ham daiquiri.

New York Times: First, Costco stopped stocking Coke products. Then we were informed of a worldwide Eggo shortage. And now Libby's is telling us there will be a canned pumpkin shortage just in time for Thanksgiving? Get those ham daiquiris shaking!

Fork in the Road: Our sister food blog has their list of the 10 best food movies of all time, which we actually agree with. "A wafer-thin mint, sir? IT'S ONLY WAFER THIN."

BuzzFeed: China has apparently perfected the art of deep-frying fish while still alive. You pretty much don't want to click this link or view the video unless you're a complete sicko like us.

SF Weekly: Last, but not least, an infographic of what you're really having for Thanksgiving this year.
