Snackshot: Cake Fail

Categories: Snackshot

Today's fail-tastic Snackshot comes to us courtesy of my mother and her vast collection of embarrassing photos.

The World's Most Fail-tastic Cake

This is how not to frost a cake. My family refers to it as the Stroke Cake to this day.

I attempted to bake a cake for my stepfather's birthday when I was 12 years old (a.k.a. old enough to read instructions). Instead of waiting for the cake to finish cooling, my impatience got the better of me and I frosted the cake almost immediately after it came out of the oven. This is the result.

Also note the giant white candle in the middle of the cake. It was supposed to play "Happy Birthday" when lit. But impatience once again got the better of me, and I lit the candle beforehand because I wanted to hear it for myself, not understanding that once it was lit, it would only play "Happy Birthday" once. So there was just this giant, plastic, already-burnt candle in the middle of the sloppy, melting cake for no other reason than to add insult to injury.

Submit your own photos (of food or anything else) to the Houston Press Flickr Pool. We'll choose our favorite food photo each Monday to be featured here on Eating Our Words.
