Voluptuous Bikini Cake at El Bolillo

El Bolillo Bakery on Airline has got a lot of things going for it. There are crunchy bolillos in two sizes. Fresh corn tortillas made out of stoneground nixtamal are sold out of a steamer case and they are exceptional. The telera bread is great for tortas--I also use it cut in half for hamburger buns.

I had never paid much attention to El Bolillo's busy cake decorating business before. Then I saw this bikini cake. I don't know if it was a one-of-a-kind custom order or a standard cake that lots of people get, but it certainly caught my attention. I tried to think of an excuse to order one on the spot -- but it was too late for Mother's Day.

Sharon says:

I love El Bolillo so much even though I can't get into the dryness of Mexican pastries. We live right down the street and walk over on a regular basis just for the smell and the atmosphere and all the pretty things that we wish tasted as good as they look. There is one cake that is possibly the best simple yellow cake coated in pecans I've ever had in my life. Unfortunately the language barrier, even with translation, has made it impossible to find again. The tortillas are amazing.

Ask for the Bolillo I will give you a tour and show you some sweet moist pastries. If I'm not there ask for a "baby roll" Jelly Roll with cajeta y nuez.

Which is a great piece, constantly good to understand much more about aviation.
