Dining Out For Life

On Thursday, April 30th, restaurants in over 50 cities across the nation are inviting patrons to dine out for life.

The event was created in 1991 to support AIDS research in Philadelphia and has since spread to the rest of the United States. Last year saw more than 3,500 restaurants participating and more than $4 million raised for AIDS charities nationwide.

Locally, all proceeds from the annual event, now in its third year, will go to AIDS Foundation Houston, a non-profit that has been fighting AIDS through education and community service since 1982.

More than 30 Houston-area restaurants are participating in Dining Out For Life by contributing 33 percent of each food bill to the cause. Some restaurants have chosen to contribute more than that, however: Little Bitty Burger Barn will contribute 50 percent and Riva's Italian Restaurant will contribute the entire 100 percent spent on each meal.

The hope is that this year's event exceeds the $80,000 raised last year.
