Candidate Cocktails on Election Day 2008

Categories: Booze, Robblog
When it's time to break up the fistfights and inject a little levity into your election-watching party, try handing out stiff cocktails and finger foods. (It's hard to fight with both hands full.) Be sure to give the food items and drinks disarmingly silly names.

Right wings, hero sandwiches, and baked ACORN squash are favored foodstuffs of McCain-Palin supporters, according to our friends at Serious Eats, while Obama backers will want pie and baked Alaska.

Sugar McCain Mojitos and Obamaretto Sours are among the politically-themed cocktails being served in Washington D.C. watering holes this election day. Both are easy to make at home. Just follow your favorite mojito or amaretto sour recipe.

But the easiest cocktails to make while watching the states turn red and blue are these colorful martinis:

Blue Democratini
2 shots vodka
1 shot Blue Curacao
Splash of simple syrup
Fill a shaker with ice. Pour the liquid ingredients in. Shake 15 times and strain into a stemmed Martini Glass.

Red Republican-tini:
2 shots vodka
1 shot Pama pomegranate liqueur
Splash of Sourpuss Mix
Fill a shaker with ice. Pour the liquid ingredients in. Shake 15 times and strain into a stemmed Martini Glass.
