Some Value: Texas Roadhouse Will Take Those Benningan’s and Steak and Ale Gift Cards

Wed Aug 06, 2008 at 02:40:38 PM
Last week, when the announcement was made that Benningan’s and Steak and Ale were going belly up, a lot of people were left holding the bag in the form of the restaurants’ gift cards that they’d never cashed in.

Today it was announced that all seven local Texas Roadhouse restaurants will give you a free entrée certificate in exchange for your gift cards at the two restaurants. Or you can exchange the cards through the mail by calling 1-800- TEX-ROAD (1-800-839-7623).

Is it a one-for-one deal? Well no.

The $25 gift card you’re holding will entitle you to a free entrée. The $50 card will do the same, said Elise Goldstein, spokeswoman with Texas Roadhouse from her Louisville, Kentucky (huh?) office.

Entrees at Texas Roadhouse are in the $10 to $19.99 range, Goldstein says.

Goldstein says Texas Roadhouse is not connected in any way to the two shuttered restaurants. “We’re completely independent,” she says.

So why are you (at least partially) honoring another restaurant’s gift cards? “It’s to get people in the door basically, to introduce them to Texas Roadhouse.”

Better hurry. The offer expires August 30 and after that you really will have nothing more than a scraper for your iced-over car windows. – Margaret Downing

I share your confusion about the location of their HQ. I had never heard of Texas Roadhouse til I moved to Lousville back in 99.
