Midway Meat Market and Barbecue (281-391-3101) is located at 5901 Hwy. 90 in Katy.
The first time that I visited the Midway Meat Market and caught a glimpse of the business office there, my jaw dropped. There's a cape buffalo head, walrus tusks and a set of fossilized mammoth tusks that a gold mining friend of the owner found in Alaska.
I'm pleased to say that the pit smoked barbecue brisket that Midway turns out is spectacular.
And the meat market proper offers jerky and smoked sausages in the classic German-Texas smokehouse style; it's possibly the closest small-town old school meat market to Houston.
