There’s four days left to cash in on Kroger’s gift card offer. Buy a gift card for $300 and get $30 worth of free grocery money tacked on at no charge. The promotion has apparently been so successful that Kroger stores have taken down the signs advertising it. But if you’d like to make a quick $30 and have $300 to invest in advance for groceries (which you can buy whenever) this is a good strategy in the war on astronomical food prices.

The upper limit is a $1,200 investment which gets you $120 in extra freebies. But it’s all over at the end of this month, so if you’re so inclined, move quickly over to customer service and ante up. -- Margaret Downing
