Lovers of Mexican breads rejoice. El Bolillo Panaderia is in its brand spanking new and bigger location across from the Farmer's Market at 2428 Airline. It's one-stop shopping for Mexican breads and pastries in a truly festive atmosphere with lots of neat artwork and graphics all over the place. Be sure to check out the domed ceiling.

The name is a play on words as bolillo is also slang for "white guy," in this case Kirk, the owner, who several years back took a shot at doing a real panaderia at the suggestion of the Mexicano bakers at his family doughnut shop.

I love to grab a hot churro and a cup of hot chocolate and watch the bread come out of the oven. It's also a great place to people watch. -- Jay Francis

Mystery tortas! I'm on a mission to track down a special Guadalajaran sandwich. I may not find it in Houston, but hope to continue posting on interesting taquerias and such as my search continues.

Food Geek Trivia: Migajon. Migajon is Mexican Spanish for the soft chewy center of a bolillo, the part that you can scoop out and roll into a ball.
