The Carnicería Connoisseur: Mystery Meats at La Michoacana #3 on Wilcrest
The breakfast tacos are served from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. only, but best get there early. The eggs get dried out sitting on the steam table. If that’s too early for you, no problem. Nopalitos, carnitas and barbacoa tacos are the same price; fajitas and other beef tacos are slightly higher.

A lot of people find the selection of “mystery meats” in the typical carniceria steam-table setup unappetizing. But La Michoacana #3 does a nice job on both the selection and the presentation. Batter-covered chile rellenos, whole fried fish, fat tamales and a dozen kinds of grilled and stewed meats lure your gaze. And a couple of appealing plate lunch suggestions are displayed on top.
Take it home or have a seat. There are stools at the counter and a half-dozen booths where you can sit down alongside the produce section and eat your tacos. It’s quite a circus on Saturday mornings. – Robb Walsh
