For years, before she went legit and moved to ABC News (actually, is Good Morning, America really news?) Robin Roberts did the play-by-play for the thing – how do you do play-by-play for the spelling bee, anyway? Then ESPN had Mike and Mike host the thing – and I don’t know about you, but I’m getting damn tired of Mike and Mike.
But ESPN’s taking a new approach this year, and the network is going with a non-sports related host. They’ve decided the man who hosts America’s Funniest Home Videos and Dancing with the Stars is just the guy to bring the proper amount of gravitas to this competition. But here’s where ESPN is going for the ratings because, fresh from the college football and college basketball sidelines, Playboy’s Sexiest Sports Broadcaster, Ms. Erin Andrews herself, is also coming on for the broadcast.
That’s just what you need. A bunch of horny perverts tuning into a children’s spelling competition so as to get a nice view of Erin Andrews.
And I guess I’ll be there as well, on Thursday, May 29, 2008. – John Royal
