The Braves will get Rogered tonight.

Okay, so Major League Baseball held their frighteningly important coin toss today, a simple flip of the coin that determines where the potential National League Central tie-breaking game will be played. The news: Should there be a tie between the Cincinnati Reds and your Houston Astros for the N.L. Central Championship, a one-game playoff would be held at Cincinnati's Great American Ball Park on Tuesday, October 3.

But wait, there's more. First, there would have to be a make-up of the St. Louis Cardinals/San Francisco Giants game. That would need to be played at Busch Stadium in St. Lousy at 2:05 p.m. (CST) on Monday, October 2.

Of course, this all hinges on how our boys do tonight and this weekend. You can trust that Rocket will show up this eve against the Braves in Hotlanta (check the game on ESPN). We then have to fell the Braves Saturday and Sunday, as well (the Braves are 38-40 at home, and we're en fuego, so things are lookin' good). Oh, and, the Cards need to choke against the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday (which, given their monumental flameout of late, shouldn't be too hard for them). Man, this is why picture-in-picture TVs were made.

Forgot to mention that after Monday, there could be a three-way tie in the NL, betwixt the 'Stros, the Cards and the Reds. Really should've paid more attention in my college stats class — this numbers crap is killing me.

The Astros front office folks told me this afternoon that there are still SRO tix available for the tie-breaker game Monday, October 2 at Minute Maid Park. But I'm sticking with the couch for this one. (I'd hate to panic-vomit on a stranger.) -- Steven Devadanam

Nick could always pursue a singing career...

Coming off an impressive win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers — and the best preseason in franchise history — the Houston Texans have announced the cuts that will get them down to the final 53 for the regular season start.

Sorry to see Antowain Smith moving on, as the aging running back is nearing the end of his career, and it'd be nice for the former UH star finish off where he started. But with the play of Chris Taylor, especially last night, it was inevitable. Sam Cowart obviously didn't fit, with the team's logjam at linebacker.

So no real surprises, though there's one player we hate to see go: fullback Nick Luchey. The veteran would've given us a season's worth of lame Nick Lachey jokes. Here's to you, Nick. Hope you're not broken, or faded. We're sure some other franchise will sign what's left of you. — Steven Devadanam
