10 Games With Guinness World Records
I don't really get the deal with GTA myself, but there's no arguing it's popular. The latest entry took just three days to break $1 billion in sales, beating out even films like The Avengers.
Entropia Universe - First Game to be a Recognized as a Bank
Anyone that plays MMORPGs knows that in-game currency is serious business. It's traded, legally and illegally, for real world money all the time, but only one game in the world has actually gone the route of setting itself up as a legitimate financial institution. That's Entropia Universe, a Swedish MMORPG that petitioned the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority for a license, which was approved. Project Entropia Dollars (PED) are openly traded on the stock exchange.
World of Warcraft - Most Popular MMORPG By Subscribers
Speaking of MMORPGs, the undisputed king of them when it comes to subscribers is World of Warcraft. With over 10 million subscribers around the world, there are more people in Azeroth than there are in Tokyo. It's also the highest grossing video game of all time, topping $10 billion in sales.
Tomb Raider - Best-Selling Gaming Heroine
You might have thought the honor would belong to Samus Aran, but you'd be wrong. With more than 35 million titles sold since 1996 Lara Croft is the woman who has moved more games than any other solo female lead. Considering the excellence of her last outing, I'm sure she'll hold into that title for quite a while.
Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time - Highest Ranked Title Ever
You can argue all you want over what video game is truly the best ever, but when it comes to critical acclaim the argument has been tabled since 2008. Ocarina of Time, in addition to basically inventing modern adventure gaming, holds the record for highest consistently rated title ever. Even on Amazon the few 1-star reviews (13 among over 1,000) are obviously trolls looking to pick fights. Simply put, everyone that has ever played this game loved it with all their heart, and Guinness recognizes that fact.
