Acclaimed musical theatre actress Sherie Rene Scott blew New York City audiences away when she debuted her cabaret concert Piece of Meat at 54 BELOW last year. Using songs from the show, which was about the struggle between enlightenment and animal desires, she has rearranged and reimagined the experience for her sophomore solo album titled All Will Be Well - The Piece of Meat Studio Sessions. With an album of pure ear candy, Scott brilliantly showcases her affective and evocative vocal talents.

Ranging in vocal styles from singer-songwriter/indie rock to contemporary jazz, Scott uses the album to capably address the intimately personal themes of love, discovery, spirituality, and disillusionment. Her emotive vocals soar on the lovely arrangements presented on the disc, abundantly giving fans of Scott everything they would expect from her. Her unique timbre (which was an acquired taste for me in the early 2000s when I first heard her sing) brings exciting life to each and every track, stirring emotions within the audience as we listen to her sing and belt.

The record opens with an up-tempo, acoustic guitar rendition of Noah and the Whale's "Five Years Time," hooking listeners with the song's upbeat tone. However, it is with Annie Lennox's "Honestly" that Scott's album truly comes to life. Her rendition of the song, which is a duet with Todd Almond, is gorgeously riveting. Another standout on the disc is her jazzy, redolent take on Joni Mitchell's "All I Want," which powerfully highlights the desires that many of us share. Her performance of "This Is Why We Do This" illustrates her ability to spin a narrative through song. My favorite track on the album is her tender and decidedly plaintive take on Kate Bush's "Moments of Pleasure." Her performance is wonderfully heartfelt, allowing the piece to illustrate Scott's ability to sound wholly vulnerable yet strong in the same breath.

In addition to Scott's fantastic voice, the work of Almond ensures that the album is perfectly paced and arranged. Whether helping Scott on her original songs or skillfully arranging popular hits to pristinely fit her electrifying vocals, Almond guarantees that Scott's album is a satisfying aural experience that listeners will want to return to time and time again.

Scott's 10-track digital exclusive All Will Be Well - The Piece of Meat Studio Sessions was released by Sh-K-Boom Records on March 25. The album can be purchased from Sh-K-Boom, iTunes, and Amazon.
