Who says high fashion isn't fabulous?
Theatre Under the Stars announced its 2014-15 season today with a season heavily tilted to the classics with one very, very new Tony Award winner.

Beginning with Victor/Victoria, the 1995 musical based upon the 1982 Blake Edwards film starring Julie Andrews, the season moves on to offer a Houston holiday alternative to A Christmas Carol and the Nutcracker with The Radio City Christmas Spectacular starring those precision kickers, the Rockettes.

Kinky Boots
, the Cyndi Lauper-scored, Tony Award winner from 2013 is the very new, while Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat appears poised to draw upon nostalgic theater-goers as well as those looking for something to which they can take the kids.

The Music Man and Rogers + Hammerstein's Cinderella follow -- again with stories designed for family viewing as well as anyone who's somehow missed ever seeing these classics performed in live theater by professionals (rather than high school students) or who wants to see them again for the great songs.

Anyhow, here's the season:

September 16 - 28, 2014

She's out of work. To get back in it, she pretends to be a he -- a he who pretends to be a she onstage. Set in Paris, Victor/Victoria offers a gender bending look at what it means to be male and female. Toss in a Chicago gangster as a love interest -- which stalls in a delightfully squirmy manner while he believes she is a he -- and you've got an interesting night of theater.

Radio City Christmas Spectacular
December 5 - 28, 2014

As previously announced, TUTS in a co-production with Gexa Energy Broadway, The Radio City Christmas Spectacular starring the Rockettes is returning to Houston. Five new numbers are promised from the precision dance team as well as "a life size double-decker tour bus" on stage. But we all know; the legs have it.

Kinky Boots
2013 Tony Award®-Winning Best Musical

In a story any budding Houston entrepreneur can relate to, Charlie is trying to reinvigorate the family shoe business he's inherited from his father. In comes Lola looking for stilettos. Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
March 17 - 29, 2015

The Tim Rice & Andrew Lloyd Webber's Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is back in a new production directed and choreographed by Tony Award®-winner Andy Blankenbuehler, Broadway/television star Diana DeGarmo (Hairspray, Hair) plays The Narrator and Broadway star Ace Young (Grease, Hair) is Joseph in this retelling the Biblical story of Joseph, his 11 brothers and the coat of many colors.

The Music Man
Tony Award®-Winning Best Musical
May 5 - 17, 2015

In 1957, The Music Man, won six Tony Awards including Best Musical. Almost 57 years later, give or take, it returns to TUTS. Con man and traveling salesman Harold Hill isn't a musician but is able to persuade the people of historic River City, Iowa, that he can and he'll lead their children to marching band fame and to give him their money. When he falls in love with the local librarian his plans take a left turn.

Swept off their feet

Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella
May 26 - June 7, 2015

If nothing else, this one's worth it for the songs: "In My Own Little Corner," "Impossible/It's Possible" and "Ten Minutes Ago." Promising surprising new twists, this is still the story of an unappreciated pretty girl who meets the prince of her dreams. Glass slippers and pumpkins come standard of course. Get ready to hit the merch table.
