So, we have an H&M after a million years of waiting and a Tom Ford store is gracing us with its presence come next year-ish, but that does not quench the retail thirst of the hearty Houston shopper. We want more! Our retail landscape is nothing to scoff at, but it is missing a few stores other major metros have had for years. Now that downtown is getting a retail renovation and the bright shiny new Rivers Oaks District is being built at Westheimer and Westcreek, I thought it would be a perfect moment to give my unsolicited suggestions. No need to thank me, just doing my duty.

The Big Fish
Bloomingdales
How do we not have a Bloomingdales? I really can't explain this one, but the oversight must be acknowledged. Bloomies has been in business for the better part of a century and has yet to make it to the Bayou City. Stop the madness.

Fashion Imports
Topshop
I know this is a reach being that they are barely in the U.S. market, but if you shoot for the stars you might hit the retail jackpot. Think H&M but a little more luxe. Perfect for the cool Museum District crowd.

Uniqlo
If you need wardrobe staples, this is the store for you. The Japanese company is known for candy colored cashmere sweaters and graphic printed T-shirts and sweatshirts - Montrose I'm lookin' at you.

MANGO
Headquartered in Barcelona, Spain in the sprawling Hangar Design Centre, MANGO is fast fashion done right. It's everything you would want in a store - high design, low price. Many a U of H or Art Institute student would frequent this store for the newest styles.

Never heard of any of those, so not sure they'd have a go here in Houston.
