Once a month we'll be bringing you a look at some of the best local Kickstarter campaigns in order to let you know what's getting ready to be unleashed through the help of small investors.

SOS: Ship of Sacrifice - Online Co-op Adventure Game: Yet another innovative idea from the Houston video game scene is this Paper Mario-inspired adventure with a dark side. The layout may hearken back to the light-hearted look of Earthbound, but you're tasked with trying to escape a damaged cruise liner full of infected passengers. The graphics are wonderfully old-school, and the premise is rather inventive.

What's revolutionary is that the game is designed almost exclusively for online co-op between you and a partner. You will both need to point and click your way together through the game, talking with people, solving puzzles, and battling RPG-style. You get to choose your gender, so any combination is possible. No word yet on whether or not a single player method will be available (I'm thinking something like the switch offs in Lost Vikings, for instance). Currently it's slated for Mac and PC only, but here's hoping for a 3DS version because that's clearly where the game belongs. Best off, it's only $8 to get the game!

More Than Human Season 1: I've got to admit, when I saw how Carlos M. Tovar, who I mostly know for the still frustratingly unreleased Doll Factory, was promoting More Than Human my enthusiasm could best be described as tepid. Not because Tovar isn't capable. He is. It's just that I wasn't sure the world needed a high school version of Heroes.

I was wrong. The world needs something to make us forget how bad Heroes really got. More Than Human follows five teens who gain superpowers from a mysterious serum. Now they have to battle a government scientist desperate to save his daughter (Played with grim brilliance by Joe Grisaffi) as well as beings from another dimension who are responsible for the serum in the first place. It looks like a killer little web series with execution on par with Mortal Kombat: Legacy, and I can't wait to see how it turns out if it gets funded. I suggest going in at the $25 level. The series will be free on the Internet, so you might as well settle at a shirt.
