A Newbie's Guide To Surviving A Movie Marathon
If you're the type of person that regularly checks what's playing at the local movie theaters, you may have noticed a trend in recent months: movie marathons are becoming a thing. Whether it's plowing through all the Best Picture nominees at a big box cinema or taking in Baymageddon at the Alamo Drafthouse, a lot of theaters are getting in to the movie marathon game.

It makes sense that movie fans would be excited about this trend. Whether it's the chance to relive the classics the way they were meant to be seen or prepping for another blockbuster release, the idea of spending hours in a movie theater is something hardcore movie fans can get behind.
That said, if you've never been to a movie marathon you might not actually understand what you're getting in to. We've all caught a movie at the theater before, but a movie marathon is a different beast altogether. You can't just show up and approach it the same way you would your standard two-hour blockbuster. Before you head out to overdose on Iron Man or whatever movie marathon you select, check out these tips to help make your marathon experience a success.
5. Dress For Success
Are you one of those people who freezes when he goes to a movie? It's easy to survive a few hours without a jacket, but once you cross the 4th or 5th hour of shivering you're going to have a hard time focusing on the films. Dress comfy - seriously, leave the tight belt and jeans at home - and bring a jacket.
4. Bring A Pillow
Theater seats were not built for long term comfort. Sure they might lean back a little and they have a place for your drinks, but by the time the credits roll most of us are ready to stand and stretch out. Think about how you feel after two hours in a theater seat then try thinking about how you'll feel after sitting in one for six. A pillow will help out with this. It may not make a theater seat a recliner, but your back and/or neck will thank you for it.

3. Pace Yourself
A lot of theaters are offering more than just the standard tubs of popcorn and fountain drinks. From pizza to burgers and from beer to cocktails, you have more choices than ever when it comes to refreshments. If you're making a day of it at the movies you might as well indulge, but don't overdo it during the first movie. Snack slowly- it's not like you're going anywhere for a while. You don't want to get so sloshed you pass out for a few hours or get so bloated that sitting in a theater chair is torture. You know your body so treat it right.
2. Plan Your Breaks
There's a good chance that you are familiar with the movies you're planning to marathon. This is really helpful when it comes to figuring out when to go to the restroom, which is something that is probably going to happen over the course of a marathon. You don't want to miss out on the good parts of the movie, right? Of course you don't.
Now, that advice is only helpful if you're familiar with the movies you're going to marathon. Marathoning a group of movies you've never seen before? Movie marathons involve sitting in a closed space for a long period of time, which can make the atmosphere around you stale. If you find yourself starting to get tired or cranky don't be afraid to step outside. It's easy to forget just how awesome fresh air is when you haven't had any for a few hours. A few minutes of fresh air and a bit of walking can help you get your second wind and make the rest of the marathon a lot easier to digest.
