Pop Rocks: Do We Even Want Carrie Fisher In The New Star Wars Movie?
Because It's Time For A Non-"Princess" Female Star Wars Character
Leia's actions notwithstanding, the movies' legacy in this regard is pretty dismal. Here's the list of women with speaking parts in those six films:
Aunt Beru (one of the last people ever accurately shot by stormtroopers, probably because she was too old to run fast)
Princess Leia (often captured, occasionally clad in a bikini)
Mon Mothma (speechifying Rebel politician, actually a pretty cool character outside of the movies)
Oola (Twi'lek dancer, I'm counti her because she may have screamed as she was dropped into the rancor pit)
Sy Snootles (if we count "Lapti Nek" as dialogue, she has the biggest speaking part of any female character next to Leia)
Padme Amidala (dies in childbirth, occasionally clad in leather)
There are dozens of kickass female characters in the EU, and there have been hints the next movie will have a female lead. Fine, we won't be seeing Mara Jade or Jaina Solo (or even Ashoka Tano), but a female Jedi would be a nice change.
And yes, I know Princess Leia became a Jedi later on. Unless they recast the role, this is not happening.
Because I Really Want A Knights of the Old Republic Movie
I used to lose entire weekends to that game (back when I had weekends). Hell, I'd settle for a standalone HK-47 movie.
