Book of Mormon is on its way to Houston. Who can we offend here?
Today, Gexa Energy Broadway is announcing its 2013-14 musical season starting in September with one that a lot of theater patrons have been hoping to see here: The Book of Mormon, the story of two Mormon missionaries spreading the good word in Uganda -- and winner of nine Tony Awards.

That's followed by Peter and the Starcatcher (a "swashbuckling" prequel to the Peter Pan story most of us know and winner of five Tony awards), Chicago (like the musical, not the movie about celebrity criminals during the Prohibition era that in all its iterations has been nominated for/won a boatload of Tonys) and Ghost (the Tony-nominated musical made from the movie).

The whole schedule crescendo ends in the spring with War Horse (OK they made a movie out of this one too), but even if you've seen the Steven Spielberg version, this should be a must-see for its incredible costumes and design, let alone the story.

So here's the musicals that have been scheduled for the next season, giving you plenty of time to plan ahead:

September 3 - 15, 2013
The Book of Mormon features book, music and lyrics by Trey Parker, Robert Lopez and Matt Stone. Parker and Stone are the four-time Emmy Award®-winning creators of the animated series, "South Park." Tony Award®-winner Lopez is co-creator of the long-running hit musical comedy, Avenue Q.  The musical is choreographed by Tony Award®-winner Casey Nicholaw (Monty Python's Spamalot, The Drowsy Chaperone) and is directed by Nicholaw and Parker.

Warning: the show "contains explicit language."

October 15 - 20, 2013
The musical is billed as "a hilarious romp through the Neverland you never knew." It is based on a best-selling novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. Twelve actors portray more than a hundred characters as they try to figure out: "ow did Peter Pan become The Boy Who Never Grew Up?"

November 12 - 17, 2013
Good songs, great dancing, a fun story, there's little not to like about this long-running Broadway show as Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly step way over the legal line, and somehow get away with it aided by lawyer Billy Flynn.

February 18 - 23, 2014

A love that will not die, put to music by Dave Stewart, of the Eurythmics, and Glen Ballard, co-writer with Alanis Morissette on the multi-platinum album Jagged Little Pill.
Unless you live under a rock, you know the story, Sam and Molly are a young married couple, he's killed but won't go away because he knows his wife's in danger. A helpful psychic connects the two.

May 27 - June 1, 2014
You have to see the puppets. Yes in the movie they could use real horses, but onstage, the life-sized (and bigger) puppets made by South Africa's Handspring Puppet Company are awe-inspiring in their own right. Set in the time of the first world war, the play tells the story of Joey, the horse sold into the English cavalry and away from his owner, young Albert. Albert comes in search of Joey and the two of them travel separately all over the battlefields.
