Top 10 Theories About the New Doctor Who Companion

Categories: Doctor Who

7. At some point in the future, Oswin looks into the heart of the TARDIS to become a Bad Wolf-type entity. Just as Rose did in "The Parting of Ways," Oswin will later absorb the Time Vortex to stop a tremendous force, and leave clues to her future for herself scattered across space and time. Except instead of graffiti she leaves copies of herself to guide The Doctor.

6. Oswin is the heart of the TARDIS. Her sudden and brazen kissing of The Doctor as Clara, as well as her remarking that the TARDIS is smaller on the outside rather than bigger on the inside, could be clues to this. It's sort of unlikely, though, knowing what we do of the way the TARDIS works. She could be the heart of another TARDIS.

5. Oswin is actually the computerized little girl CAL from "Silence in the Library." Both are brunettes, and CAL would have enough information about The Doctor and River Song (spending her afterlife caring for CAL in the Library's files) to know to coax The Doctor with mention of the Ponds. Possibly she is using projection into flesh-like bodies to leave her digitized safehouse.

No one is questioning the timeline. I think Clara's timeline comes right after a Good Man Goes to War/Demon's Run. That would explain why Vastra and Strax is with the doctor in London when they meet clara (Strax supposidly dies at Demon's Run). I also think she has a connection to the Gamma Girl at Demon's Run who says "You don't remember me." right before she dies. Also River says she can't be at Demon's Run unil the very end and shows up as soon as the Gamma Girl (Lorna, I believe was her name) dies.

What if the phrase 'fall of the 11th' means the month not the doctor? Anyway, the 50th anniversary is on 23rd Nov which makes it the last week of Nov, thus saying fall of the eleventh month not doctor.

The Heart of the TARDIS has once before left a meme lying splattered all over time - "Bad Wolf."  This time the message is "Oswald," and she's all over time and space.  After she dies, she just shows up again.  The very name may lead the Doctor to the day that Kennedy dies, which is somehow the day before his name starts re-entering the history books from which it had been deleted, but with one critical difference.  "Oh, the Doctor?  Yes, isn't he a children's show character?  Very strange little stories."

None of the above.  There are a few unanswered questions from the Moffat era yet to be answered, and one of them is "Doctor Who?" ... as the Doctor is slowly being erased from the memory of the universe (and, forgetting himself, apparently, as he doesn't remember the Great Intelligence and the Yeti incident ... And, why did the Tardis explode?

It's the 50th Anniversary, so this is going to encompass a lot more classic Who than usual.

My theory is merely that Oswin is the focal point for the Doctor's existence ... something to do with Susan would be nice (his granddaughter.)  Whatever is going on, I agree with julietutwiler that we can't guess it.

In A GOOD MAN GOES TO WAR, when the Doctor reads the cradle, his reaction IMPLIES that he and River have (had, will have) a child together. Clara could be said child.

Cant be a regeneration of River, because her body is dead. Her Time Lord body is gone and dead, River only exists as a consciousness on a computer

There's another theory that she's the daughter of Rose Tyler and the Tenth Doctor's "clone" (from the episode "Journey's End").

I would like to see Jenny come back since she is part time lady or Romana 2 from E-space since she was left there with K-9 back with the 4th doctor, cause I don't think she went back to there home planet when the time war happened, I am just excited to see how this is going to go  =)

I would like to see the Teselector come back in some way.

Let's see... she died at the end of both episodes in which she appeared. I can see this occurring again and again, like Kenny McCormick - "Oh my God! They've killed Kenny! You bastards!" Yes, South Park.

Since the Doctor always manages to surprise us, it's safe to say that any theory we think of won't be the actual explanation. :) Also, when you mess around with time travel, anything's possible!

I read an interview with Oswin where the actress said that she couldn't even tell the audience the planet that her character is from, because that would give too much away, which makes things even more interesting.

Actually, Jenny was NOT the Doctor's daughter--she was a CLONE of the Doctor. That makes it much more likely to me that she is Clara.

I still think it's the doctor's daughter from 10th doctor episode, "The doctor's daughter". We know she can regenerate, even if he doesn't know.

Adding to option seven and the Bad Wolf Dorium's comment concerning Trenzalore,  and the fall of the 11th.

@tartureix River was "Saved" just like the other 4022 inhabitants of the Library were "saved" when the Vashta Nerada struck.  It's only a matter of the tiny window to rescue her before the Shadows take over again.

@tartureix you haven't seen any of series 5 & 6 then cause that's not the case, River is living and breathing like the rest of us

@tinanoire This is one option not mentioned: she's not a regen of River, but JENNY.

and River used up all her Regens?  first rule, "the doctor always lies."

@terramundi Well... She's Peter Davidson's daughter so she IS the Doctor's daughter. And creepily enough, she married David Tennant, so she's also his wife... That's almost biblical.

@terramundi While technically accurate, I still feel that the fact that Ten referred to her and treated her as a daughter rather than the way he treated his Meta Clone speaks more of the nature of the relationship than anything else.

@dscott750 Matt isn't leaving anytime soon hes said that in many interviews so i dont' think we will see the fall of 11 anytime soon =)

@brainlock72 @tartureix True but things have changed TONS since I mean all the times shes running around with the 11th doctor shes still in the computer? I don't think so =)

tinanoire

@brainlock72 @tinanoire True and like I mentioned Clara's ship and jenny's ship has the SAME interior ;)

ALSO, like say with Romana 2 left in E-space she probably didn't take part in the time war, so she could be still roaming around E-space and popping up now ;)

yes doctor always lies, River could have more regens we never know, just have to wait and see how Moffat does this one!

@loopyluce78

Actually, we don't know how many lives she had between when she was taken at birth, when she was an apparently ten-year-old-girl trapped in a spacesuit, and when she became Rory and Amy's playmate. So Clara theoretically could be River. Or, she could be River and the Doctor's kid. River will *one day* be in the library, but not until more time has passed from her perspective. Her timeline and the Doctor's aren't linear. Sometimes her diary is fat while his is thin, and sometimes it's vise versa. There could be a ten or twenty year gap that the Doctor hasn't seen, one in which domestic life happens. We know for sure that he has yet to build a sonic screwdriver that drills square holes in walls, and he hasn't put on his best suit and taken River to see the fireworks before giving her that screwdriver. In other words, the Doctor has not seen River for the last time.
