The movies that win the Oscar for Best Picture aren't the only ones that deserve your attention. Here are five films that were nominated, but lost, that we think are worth a screening.

In 1984, A Soldier's Story lost to Amadeus.

Soldier's Story starred Denzel Washington, Howard E. Rollins, Jr., Larry Riley, Robert Townsend, Patti LaBelle and the late, great Adolph Caesar. Rollins is Captain Davenport who is investigating the murder of a black Sargent (Caesar). His first suspects? A couple of racist white soldiers who were on guard duty the night the Sargent was killed.

In 2000, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon lost to Gladiator.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon starred Chow Yun-Fat, Michelle Yeoh and Chang Chen as Wudang swordsmen battling it out.

In 2004, Finding Neverland lost to Million Dollar Baby.

Finding Neverland was a sweet, magical story of Peter Pan author J. M. Barrie. It starred Johnny Depp, Kate Winslet, Dustin Hoffman, and Julie Christie.

In 2008, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button lost to Slumdog Millionaire

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button starred Brad Pitt (one of seven actors that take on the Benjamin Button role during the film), Cate Blanchett, Julia Ormond, and Tilda Swinton. The film follows Button from birth to death, during which he becomes younger and younger, rather than growing older.

In 2009, Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire lost to The Hurt Locker.

Precious starred newcomer Gabourey Sidibe as an overweight teenage girl who is abused by her mother (brilliantly played by Mo'Nique). Precious eventually finds a way out of the poverty and abuse that surround her. Mariah Carey, Lenny Kravitz, and Sherri Shepherd also appear.

They were all deserving movies to get an award. Movies are only sensible if the story covers all the possibilities and good to know that they highlight those.
