Five Chuck Palahniuk Books That Should Be Turned into Movies

fight-club-movie-poster-1999-1020215604.jpg
You know it's just a matter of time before someone tries a remake.
Since Chuck Palahniuk's 1996 novel Fight Club was made into one of the most controversial and most talked about films of the late '90s, starring Brad Pitt and Edward Norton, every work since has been bandied about as a possible film in one way or another.

Producers wait with bated breath for the galleys to see if they could replicate the backdoor success of Fight Club, which has grown to become a sort of 21st century Clockwork Orange for some. Feature film rights to Palahniuk properties became hot commodities.

The last Palahniuk to make it onto the big screen was 2001's Choke, which was made with Sam Rockwell and Anjelica Huston in 2008.

According to IMDb Pro, there are four Palahniuk books in development in Hollywood, including Invisible Monsters, Snuff, Rant and Survivor. Plenty of movies, though, languish in development hell, right, Jim Carrey?

Snuff was rumored to star Daryl Hannah as Cassie Wright, a retiring porn actress, but Hannah denied climbing on board due to the novel's ties to sex trafficking.

Palahniuk, who turned 50 years old Tuesday, has never been one to balk at his books being made into films. Some novelists fight adaptations at every turn, or blackball the final product. He had a small cameo in Choke, and he applauded Fight Club director David Fincher for even attempting to make some of his more base imagery in that novel come to life.

Haunted (2005)

This creepy anthology would make a great movie, filmed sort of like Twilight Zone: The Movie, and the short segment "Guts" would make for one of the most uncomfortable scenes since that whole human centipede business.

survivor.jpg
Survivor (1999)

The story of a cult member who becomes a celebrity is perfect for the social media expanse of 2012, and with people growing ever clannish at the prospect of mass famine and war, it would tap into something prescient.

Invisible Monsters (1999)

A transsexual and a disfigured model. Downright Hitchcock, and would offer up some groundbreaking imagery along the way with an adventuresome cast, the Rhea Sisters alone.

Rant is my all time favorite from Chuck. I would love to see it as a movie, especially since Fight Club was my favorite until I read Rant. I've read all his books by the way. Although I think Rant would be far more confusing to non-fans than Fight Club was. I love talking to other fans about the movie because it seems like we've all watched it with someone who is saying the whole time and even at the end "What the hell is going on? Is he him?" hahhaha and we get it within 10 min of the start.

I always thought Lullaby would be sick as a movie that sets the premise for a tv series that followed their adventures on the road.

Definitely keen for an Invisible Monsters or Rant Film, would be seriously weird!

Adored Choke, esp bc Sam Rockwell was so divinely cast in that. Kelly MacDonald rounded out her character better than I could have expected. Bran William Henke was a stellar sidekick for Rockwell's Victor. Does anyone else picture Survivor as a very quiet and blandly shot pic, ala The Machinist?  Haunted would be fun to see exactly what director could capture the actual haunted scenario without making it some adolescent Wayans flick + a cinematographer who could capture the Guts scene as true to the book as Choke was. Go go, I'll race you to the front of the cinema line!Nichole L. Reberhttp://www.architecturetravelw...

Survivor NEEDS to be a movie. It's been rumoured to be going to the big screen since I first read it at least 6 years ago.

Haunted could be interesing, I wouldn't want to see RANT, since it was an oral biography, and I just don't think it would work well, I liked never actually "meeting" Rant Casey in the book. How Lullaby didn't make this list I don't know, but I REALLY want to a Survivor movie.

I would like to see all of those plus one more, Damned .  That with the proper cast and a good production would make to me one good movie.

Any novel turned into a movie by Mr. Palahniuk would be fantastic to see with all of the bogus shit turning out in hollywood lately...hopefully the script will be written or co-written by Chuck as well to give it the "real deal feel." The material is edgy but so is everything else...I would jump at the chance to be in a movie that could possibly rival the success of Fight Club...but they need excellent actors and actresses, a great director like Fincher, although there are several others...and the script written by Chuck....and let him have an influence in the casting...and you've fuckin' got it. Obviously the supervision and management is NOT working...and some people just have to take chances because all of us true fans have always wanted to see Fight Club 2...not literally...but another movie that could live up to that based on another Palahniuk novel that tops the intensity and the magick of the first. *Fingers are crossed for Chuck*

Definitely Rant, with Invisible Monsters making a good effort as second.

Survivor HAS to be done. It's got Hollywood written all over it! I also think Diary would be an interesting story to see made into a movie.. eerie, though.

Japecoyote

Survivor starring Ralph Fiennes.

LULLABY! Great article by the way

The reason why Pgymy would be hard to adapt into a movie is because one of the most important elements of the book is the fact that Palahniuk makes it a point to leave out details such as the race of the exchange students, the country they're from, and even the way they look. Thus, it could be anyone. If Pgymy were adapted into a movie, even something as simple as the actors chosen for the exchange students may point fingers at a certain country as being terrorists.
