Michelle White was so thrilled with her internal promotion at The Menil Collection that she pretty much left Houston right away. The future Menil curator won't return for two weeks.

That's because she got married over the weekend and is currently honeymooning.

When she returns in mid-November, White will take the next step in her career in art caretaking. She started at the Menil in 2006 as a curatorial assistant before moving to assistant curator and eventually associate curator.

"In a very short time, Michelle distinguished herself at the Menil by organizing splendid exhibitions, presenting lectures and participating in other programs, and making important contributions to our scholarly publications," says Menil director Josef Helfenstein, the man responsible for upping White to her new gig.

During her five-year stint at the art space, White has helped organize the "Imaginary Spaces," "Leaps into the Void" and "Seeing Stars" exhibits. She also recently commissioned an experimental dual-film installation by Leslie Hewitt and Bradford Young.

White holds a B.A. from the University of California, San Diego and an M.A. from Tufts University (her thesis was on American painter and conceptual artist Robert Ryman). She has worked at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, Fogg Museum of Art at Harvard and as a curatorial assistant at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.

White was unavailable for comment on account of the newlywed thing. We'll holler at her in a few weeks so that we can find out what she has in the works.
